Ruger 10/22 History:
 The Ruger 10/22 is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle and has been in production since 1964. The Ruger 10/22 was immediately popular upon its release, being one of the first modern rifles chambered in .22 which was designed as a quality, adult gun (with adult ergonomics). It has a removable rotary magazine which allows the magazine to fit flush with the bottom of the stock and the latest variations all feature a 10 round magazine.

 The Ruger 10/22 features a alloy steel barrel of various lengths, rifled with six grooves with a 1 in 16 inch right hand twist and it uses a unique attachment method where the barrel is screwed rather than pinned into the frame (the barrel is not threaded, but attachment involves two screws), making removal and replacement of the barrel very easy.

 A magnum version, chambered for the .22 WMR cartridge, was made from 1998 to 2006, and a .17 HMR version, the 10/17 was announced in 2004, but this model is no longer in production either.

 The Ruger 10/22 is available in a wide variety of configurations. As of 2010, the Ruger catalog shows five current variations in eight models, all in 22 Long Rifle.

Ruger 10/22 Customization:
 The Ruger 10/22 is highly customizable. The popularity of the Ruger 10/22 has led to many after-market modifications being available to improve performance, augment the rifle's looks, or increase its magazine capacity, leading the 10/22 to be one of the most customizable firearms made.

 The Ruger 10/22 barrel uses two screws to attach it to the receiver, making removal and replacement of the barrel very easy. This, when combined with the simple construction of the rest of the components, means that the average person can easily replace any part in the gun with nothing more than a screwdriver, a hex key and simple punches.

 The reason for adding a compensator to the Ruger 10/22 rifle is simple, while it may seem there is very little recoil to a 22LR. round the muzzle of the rifle will climb somewhat when it is fired. If you are involved with any kind of speed competition you need to eliminate the muzzle climb by adding a compensator so that you have faster target acqusition.

 The addition of a good lightweight thumbhole rifle stock to the Ruger 10/22 adds way more control over the rifle as part of your hand does the controlling so a palm swell added to a custom Ruger 10/22 rifle stock is a bonus feature.

 Ruger 10/22 Modifications:
 The modifications that can be done to the Ruger 10/22 rifle are extensive so I thought I would lay out for you the most extreme version that I know of and that is the conversion of two Ruger 10/22 rifles into a twin firing gatling gun. You just can't imagine how much fun this conversion is and how simple the kit is to put together.

 The Ruger 10/22 Gatling Gun kit enables you to capture a taste of what it must have been like to fire the legendary Gatling gun by converting two Ruger 10/22 rifles (not included) into a twin-barrel modern rendition of the famous Gatling Gun in .22 caliber.
 The Ruger 10/22 machined aluminum kit features bronze bushings, a trigger bar on thrust bearing, aluminum receiver covers, anti-aircraft-style sights, swivel feet, barrel guards, muzzle brakes and limit screws. Rate of fire is four rounds per crank revolution.

Ruger 10/22 Magazines:
 The standard 10 round 10/22 magazine stores the cartridges in a rotary fashion, rather than stacked, as in a box magazine. This allows the magazine to fit flush into the rifle without protruding from the stock. There are many types of after-market magazines for the Ruger 10/22, availabilities include 25, 30, and 50 round box magazines.

 The standard 10 round factory Ruger 10/22 magazine performs quite well but is limited to ten rounds of 22 long rifle ammunition which brings me to my point, there is a device that allows you to attach three magazines together which then gives you thirty rounds of ammo at hand, empty one magazine rotate magazine for the next ten rounds, empty that magazine then rotate for the next ten rounds of ammo.
