240 Weatherby Magnum History and General Information. The 240 Weatherby Magnum was introduced in 1968 as the twelfth Weatherby cartridge in their belted long range rifle cartridges line-up. The 240 Weatherby cartridge case is unique in its design and is best described as a 30/06 cartridge case necked down to .24 caliber and a belt added to the case.
The 240 Weatherby Magnum is one of the most powerful commercially available cartridges in 24 caliber, able to send 80 grain bullets down range at velocities of 3,500 fps. and 100 grain bullets in excess of 3,200 fps. which makes it a great dual purpose cartridge for varmint and deer with the ability to dispatch of either one out to 400 yards.
The 240 Weatherby Magnum is a moderate to heavy recoiling cartridge which is still comfortable enough for most anyone to shoot. For anyone who lives and hunt in areas where a good dual purpose, flat trajectory cartridge is needed the 240 Weatherby Magnum cartridge has a lot to offer with excellent ballistics.
