260 Remington History and General Information.  The 260 Remington cartridge was introduced to the shooting public in 1997. Remington's 260 cartridge case is based on the popular 308 Winchester case lenthened by .020" and necked down to 26 caliber.  The 260 Remington is an excellent, accurate and flat shooting cartridge out to about 300 yards and is more than capable of taking most big game animals in the lower 48 states.  The 260 Remington when loaded with 140 grain bullets at 2800 feet per second velocity will deliver a little over a ton (2,082 foot pounds) of energy at the distance of 100 yards.  The 260 Remington when loaded with 120 grain bullets recoil is tolerable, pleasant enough to shoot for most shooters that are recoil conscious and recommended for young shooters wanting a little more powerful cartridge than the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser.   260 Remington Barrel Specifications.
