357 Magnum: Handgun or Rifle.

357 Magnum Handgun Cartridge:
The 357 Magnum cartridge and handguns were introduced to the public in 1935 by Smith&Wesson. The first handguns seen by the public chambered in the new 357 Magnum cartridge were sporting barrels of over 8 inches in length. This would allow the new cartridge to be viewed as far more powerful than the 38 Special cartridge from which it was derived.

The 357 Magnum operates at a much higher pressure level than the 38 Special so the 357 Magnum cartridge case was made .135 of an inch longer than the 38 Special so as no mistaken loading of 357 Magnum cartridges in weaker 38 Special handguns. The 357 Magnum is very easy to reload and can handle many tasks, for the handloader this cartridge can be reloaded for plinking, target shooting, hunting and home defense.
