Hodgdon Muzzle-loading Rifle Powders: Hodgdon Pyrodex and Triple Seven propellants are designed for use in muzzle-loading rifles found by a competent gunsmith to be in good shootable condition. Hodgdon Pyrodex: Pyrodex may be used with standard percussion cap, musket cap or 209 primer ignition systems. Pyrodex is more energetic than black powder and can be substituted at a 1:1 ratio by volume for black powder. Pyrodex is similar in composition to black powder, consisting primarily of charcoal, sulfur, and potassium nitrate. While Pyrodex offers improved safety and increased efficiency over black powder, the level of fouling is similar, it is corrosive.
Hodgdon Pyrodex P: The principle use for Pyrodex P is in all pistols and in smaller bore muzzle-loading rifles, 45 caliber and down. P is also useful as a priming charge in guns which have a fouled ignition channel or other ignition problems. P compares to 3F black powder on a granular size basis.
Hodgdon Pyrodex RS: Pyrodex RS can be used in all calibers of percussion muzzle-loading rifles and shotguns. Like all grades of Pyrodex, it burns cleaner and produces less fouling than black powder. It has a wide application of uses, RS compares to 2F black powder on a granular size basis.
Hodgdon Pyrodex Pellets: No measuring, no pouring, Pyrodex pellets give muzzleloaders greater consistency, performance and faster second shots. Pyrodex Pellets are designed for use only in newly manufactured muzzle-loading, in-line rifles of .45 caliber, .50 caliber and 54 caliber. Hodgdon Triple Seven: Hodgdon Triple Seven is sulfur free and virtually odorless, the residue left in the barrel is water soluable and can be cleaned anywhere with just plain water. Use Triple Seven only in a 209 primer ignition system. Triple Seven is a sulfurless black powder substitute. Triple Seven is more energetic than black powder, producing higher velocities and pressures. Still burning carbon, the carbon-based fuel burned here is from the sugar family, not from charcoal. Triple Seven is more energetic than black powder and can be substituted at a 1:1 ratio by volume for black powder. To duplicate the velocity in a black powder load using Triple Seven, you must decrease the powder charge by 15%.
Hodgdon Triple Seven FFFG: The principle use for Triple Seven FFFG is in all pistols and in smaller bore rifles, 45 caliber and down. Triple Seven FFFG is also useful as a priming charge in muzzleloaders that have ignition problems. Triple Seven FFFG compares to 3F black powder on a granular size basis.
Hodgdon Triple Seven FFG: The principle use for Triple Seven FFG is in all calibers of percussion muzzle-loading rifles and shotguns. It has a wide application of uses, burns cleaner and produces less fouling than Pyrodex RS. Triple Seven FFG compares to 2F black powder on a granular size basis.
Hodgdon Triple Seven Pellets: No measuring, no pouring, Triple Seven Pellets give muzzleloaders greater consistency, performance and faster second shots. Triple Seven Pellets are designed for use only in new manufacture muzzle-loading, in-line rifles of .45 caliber, .50 caliber and 54 caliber.
